Deadly Insects
Human beings always regard tigers, snakes, bears,
crocodiles, sharks, and lion as Killers. However, we always forget to mention
that tiny insect actually kill more people around the world than these ferocious animals. Many insects are consedered
killers insect because they are able to spread deadly diseases to human beings.
There are many diseases spread by insects to humans. The
most common diseases are malaria, dengue fever, encephalitis, filariasis, lyme
disease, leishmaniasis, chagas disease, plague and typhus. Among the insects responsible for these diseases
are mosquitoes, bugs, fleas, flies and ticks. Many of the diseases infected by
insects are not actually caused by the insects themselves, but rather by
organisms passed on when the insects
bite and feed. In this case, the responsible diseases-causing organism is
called a pathogen, and the insect responsible is known as a vector.
Shike Rei was a spoiled child. He knew that his father,
Mr. Wong Shoge was a rich man. So, Shike Rei was very careless with his
father’s money and spent it as much as he pleased.
When Mr. Wong
Shoge found out about this, he didn’t give his son any more money. Shike Rei
began to think of a plan. He went to his friends and borrowed money from each
of them by saying, “Don’t worry, my father is so rich that I can easily pay
back all the money I have borrwed from you”.
Soon he
owed all of his friends so much money that they refused to lend him any more.
At last they began to ask him for their money back. Shike Rei did not know what
to do, so all his friends went to Mr. Wong Shoge and asked him for their money
back. Mr. Wong Shoge was very angry. He gave his son two huge sacks full of
dollar coins and asked him to go to the home of each of his friends to repay
the money he owed them.
Shike Rei
walked from house to house, carrying the heavy sacks of money. At last, he
thought to himself, “ if giving money away to people is such hard work, how
much harder must it be to earn the money.”
From that
day he was always very careful with money.
How is Dust Useful to Us?
Most people think that dust is very harmful
to us. But this is not true. Dust is, in fact, very useful and therefore, it is
essential to know what dust is and how it is formed.
Every solid substance is composed of very
small particles. When these small particles of matter are scattered, they
become dust particles. For example, if we go on breaking a brick or a stone
into small pieces, it will turn into small particles. These particles get mixed
with air and they are called dust particles. The air then carries dust
particles from one place to another.
There are different ways by which dust is
formed. When solid substance breaks, dust is formed. Smoke generated by the
burning of coal, wood, petrol, etc. Also produces dust. Dust particles also
come from dead plants, sea salt, desert, volcanic sand, etc. The particles of
the earth’s surface also fly in the air in the form of dust.
The biggest use of the dust particles is that
they help in the formation of the rains. The water vapors in the clouds
condenses on the dust particles in the form of water-drops. These drops fall on
the earth as rains. The absence of dust particles can delay the rain. Likewise,
mist, fog, etc. Are also formed due to the presence of dust particles
Two students were discussing the school's new rule
that all the students must wear a cap and a tie. One of them showed her
annoyance. She said that wearing a cap and a tie was only suitable for a flag
rising ceremony. So, she was against the rule. Contrary to the girl's opinion,
the other student was glad with it. He said that he didn't mind with the new
rule because wearing a cap and a tie will make the students look great and like
real educated persons. The first student
gave the reasons that they would feel uncomfortable and hot. Moreover, the
classrooms were not air conditioned. The second said it wasn't a big problem.
He was sure that the students would wear them proudly. They would surely be
used to it any way.
Hundreds
of years ago,
during the reign
of the last
king of Majapahit, Brawijaya,
one of
the King’s wives gave
birth to a girl, who was named Roro Anteng. Later this
young princess married Joko
Seger, who came from a Brahman caste. Because of an unfortunate situation
the couple was forced to leave the kingdom. They settled down in the mountain
area. They ruled the area and named it “Tengger”, which was derived from the
couple’s names : Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.
After several years, the region flourished in
prosperity, but Roro Anteng and Joko Seger were unhappy because they did
not have a child. Frustrated, they
climbed to the top of the mountain and prayed night and day hoping that the
Gods would listen. The prayer was heard and Betoro Bromo promised them many children. However, the couple had to promise
that they would sacrifice their youngest child in return.
Roro Anteng gave birth to a child, then another, and another, until they got 25
children. Soon it was time for them to sacrifice the youngest child, Kesuma,
but the parents just couldn’t do it.
They tried to hide the child, but an eruption happened and
Kesuma fell into the crater. There was silence before they heard a voice : “ I
have to be sacrificed so that you will all stay alive. From now on, you should arrange an annual sacrificial ceremony.” It
was Kesuma’s voice.
Kesuma’s
brothers and sisters
held the offering
ceremony every year. Instead of human being, they gave fruit, vegetable, rice
and meat to be offered to the Gods. And since that time this has been
done generation after generation.
What do you know
about the sun? Yeah, it is the center of the solar system. The sun is nearer to
us the any other star, only 150 million km away. Without it, the Earth would be
a dark, cold, lifeless world. You should never look at the Sun directly as its
intense brightness could damage your eyes.
Further about the
Sun, it is not solid, but a very dense mass of gas. Now see the picture above.
The outer surface of the sun which we can see is called the photosphere. It’s a
sea of boiling gas you know……..it sends out the light and heat we see and feel
on Earth. Now look at the part above the photosphere. It is the chromo sphere.
Well, it is thin, but it looks like flaming forest. Yeah, this is so because
burst of heat-light energy called specula’s frame through it.
Then, above the
chromo sphere is the corona, which looks like a halo. Do you know the hottest
part of the sun? Right, it’s center or core, where the nuclear reaction takes
place. Energy moves from the core, through the many layers, such as the chromo
sphere and photosphere, to reach the surface and out into space.
